Egypt opens today the largest air / naval base in the Middle East .

Today, Wednesday, Egypt is preparing to open the largest air / naval base in the Middle East and the Red Sea sector, the first of its kind on Egyptian soil, which will be attended by Arab and foreign heads of state and defense ministers and a number of high-level diplomatic figures.

The base will be opened with a huge maneuver, which is the largest in the history of the Egyptian army, and it was called (Qadir 2020). It participates in the maneuver, carrying helicopters Mistral, combat ships, submarines, amphibious landing forces and various types of multi-role fighters and attack helicopters in the Air .

It is located on the Red Sea in southeastern Egypt, and it is adjacent to the Bernice Military Airport

Before the inauguration of the Bernice base, the main naval base of the Egyptian navy on the Red Sea was the Safaga base, which is the headquarters of the Egyptian Southern Fleet Command, and there were no other bases except the Suez base in the north.  Therefore, it was necessary to have another base in the south to relieve pressure from the Safaga base, and to ensure an additional capacity to secure and protect the Egyptian southern coasts, and to be a closer launch point to the south of the Red Sea for the units of the southern fleet.
