Here's my guide to what the British like to do on holiday and how to keep them happy. Some are funny, but trust me, they're all true. Enjoy!
THEY WANT TO SUNBATHE
This involves wearing as few clothes as possible all the time. UK weather is unreliable at best, so don't interrupt the sun worshiping or think they are being disrespectful, they just want to soak up those amazing Egyptian rays.
THEY ALWAYS SPEAK IN ENGLISH
This is sadly because most don't speak any other languages, although they might throw in a couple of words like 'inshallah' or 'habibi' but this is the limit of their language skills usually.
DRINKING AT LUNCHTIME
Some Brit's on holiday like to take advantage of the opportunity for all day drinking. They are on holiday, this isn't normal behaviour, so serve them with a smile if they request beer straight after breakfast.
WE FORM GROUPS
The British tend to hear an English voice and get drawn to it, so you'll see us gathered at the bar, feel free to join in, we're not unfriendly or into cliques, but we just need to find out if we come from the same town or if we have anything in common. Another English voice is irresistible to us.
WE ARE OFTEN PATRIOTIC ABROAD
You'll probably notice some people laying on Union Jack towels or wearing shorts sporting our national flag, don't be put off, we just love our Queen and country.
WE TEND TO WAVE OUR ARMS ABOUT AND SHOUT
This is necessary because we can't speak your language and if we want a drink or menu, we'll tend to wave at you wildly and communicate in sign language or alternatively speak very loudly in the belief that you will understand if we say it loud enough.
WE LIKE TO TRY LOCAL FOOD BUT....
The British are very cosmopolitan and like to try local delicacies and soak up local culture, however they will bring marmite and Tea bags as most can't live without the essentials. Ensure that chips, burgers and pizza are always available as most British won't stay happy for long without their old favourites.
If you want to be the Brit's best friend, save them their favourite sunbed. Many will set an alarm (even on holiday) to ensure they get their chosen spot to fry themselves all day in the glorious Egyptian sun.
Brit's love to explore the sites and will willingly give up a few days sunbathing to explore the amazing Egyptian history. They are happy to pay a fair price, but don't ever try to overcharge because they won't stand for it. Your name will be all over social media in a nanosecond and you'll be the main topic of conversation at the pool bar for the duration of their holiday. Brit's never forget and never give up.
TIPS AND SHOPPING
Brit's are generous by nature and will tip very well for good service with a friendly smile. They also like to take back a souvenir of their trip, but they aren't stupid. If you over inflate the cost of rubbish, they'll walk out and they won't succumb or take kindly to being chased down the road either. Leave them to browse in peace and the chances are they'll buy something.
Brit's love Egypt, give them what they want and they'll love you forever. Happy Holidays to Egypt.
